I wanted to enrich my portfolio with some solid Industrial Design, so I did this for the IDW at conceptart.org
I am really having fun with all this intricate designing process, I wanna do more like this again! :)

It's a combined troop carrier/gunship carrying up to 20 soldiers and deploying them in field combat.

The process was as follows:

I made little thumbnail sketches of sideviews and decided upon one of them. Then I painted a roughly shaded 3D view in Photoshop and printed this with very low opacity onto the brown drawing paper (I love it!). I designed everything out with pencil and scanned back in. The shading was done in PS and I also drew the blueprints digitally! :)

who knows, I might model this out someday...

I would love to do paper modeling of some of these designs. Very nice work!

I'd be honored to see those!

Do you have any 3d models of the ships? or are they all in an 2d format?

I make the paper kits by starting with a 3d model like a .3ds or .obj file format. If you are interested in a little collaboration for fun, lemme know. :)

Either way, I admire your eye for design.

ah, I only have this as a 2D drawing, no models...
Anyway, if you wanna give it a go, I'd really be curious about the result!

would I be allowed to try my hand at
making a 3d (digital) model of this?

It probably wouldn't be exact,
or even very good for that matter...

how 'bout it?
