Hyper G One - in flight WIPs by Hideyoshi Hyper G One - in flight WIPs by Hideyoshi
Got permission to post these! :)

I did so called "pitch artwork" for 2 Hollywood screenwriters, Gregg Chabot and Kevin Peterka. They are trying to sell a sci-fi storyscript and needed some promotional illustrations.
Had lots of fun on all the paintings! :)

step-by step for this speedpainting: [link]
You can see the perspective grid.

More coming!

I wonder what's with the parachutist and the trails from the ground by the way...

The parachutist couldn't come from the plane because by the time he'd have opened his chute the plane would be out of the picture already. If the trails are bullets, then the guys on the ground aren't trying really hard to hit anything I guess ^_^

Impressive paintwork on the plane and surroundings :)

lol you got a point. I guess those shooters are dead-drunk :P
And I know that the figure with the open chute dosen't make much sense. Client simply insisted it to be like this. And the figure was meant to be visible...

Ah, it's a commission, alright :)

If I further defy logic I would say the parachutist was airborne long before this scene, and now the poor bloke finds himself in the path of a HUGE plane... now that could make for some cool (or not cool) action :)

I'd watch that movie.

why did you invert the background in the 2nd pic and the reinvert in its original position?

it's called horizontal flipping. Gives a fresh view at your work and you can better check errors and compositional flaws.
A lot of artist do this...

this might be a dumb question, but how exactly do you use the grid in the first picture? I never saw something like that in school.

lol, first of, you need to have the basics on perspective down. The rest is drawing it in by hand directly. No shortcuts to this...

yeah i understand the basics of perspective, but the straight horizontal en vertical grid is something i haven't learned. Is it a helping hand in measuring the subject or something likewise?
thx for the reply ^^ not many "big leagues" have time for that

for me, perspective grids help establishing an imaginary space. I can easily visualize elements by that. Somehow the grid gives off a very 3D space feel all by itself. So learning how to put in a correct grid is key...

How do I make a grid like the one you use in the first box?
Do I have to make it from scratch or is there a preset some where?

Well, you need to know about perspective foremost. ;)
There is no preset or something, this was drawn by hand with the line tool...
