New York was awesome!

about 5h, no ref. I did't set up a perspective grid, so it's pretty wonky...
I actually feel I am really out of shape with my paintings ;_;
Pushing my limits and overcoming them has become harder and harder... at least I know I need improvement, heh.

You nailed it. I daresay that shanghai will likely look quite similar to this in 100 years. The quality of work here is incredible, and the overall effect is quite interesting. The mood of the piece seems to be a combination of sadness and longing with a flavor of wonder and adventure. The man on the boat, and the woman on the shore looking at each other as he floats away.... that small part of the picture takes the incredible landscape concept and brings it to life with a story.

Detailed massive industrial landscapes bring forth awe, but too many artists leave them like that, static windows into a static world. The incorporation of a human element (or even plants or animals) changes the dynamic of the piece to make it a system that is in flux. It also gives the viewer an alternate perspective in looking at the piece, where it is easier for them to imagine themselves in the landscape because they can substitute themselves for the character displayed. This brings forth a complex array of emotions from the viewer and elevates the piece to a new level of artistic merit.

It is wonderful to see that you understand this, and you deserve to be commended for all of the fantastic pieces you have created.
