Here is my Steampunk Challenge entry. I chose a japanese myth about Hidesato, an archer who went and slew the giant Centipede by shooting an arrow which was dipped in his own saliva.
Dunno, how long it took.. I know I was using more time staring at the image without painting anything. It's a bad habit of mine when I work on 'bigger' paintings. It looses intuitiveness and personal swiftness in a painting which is bad.
I didnt have any reference, but looked at photos for the sky colors to get the time of the day right. Some parts of the Centipede were quickly modelled and pasted in, overpainting.
